Determination of adsorptive and kinetic properties of active layers of ceramic membranes used in hydrogen separation
The study concerns the equilibria and kinetics of adsorption of CO2, H-2, CO, CH4 and N-2 over faujasite crystals which form an active layer of ceramic membranes. The most strongly adsorbed species is CO2, while the adsorption of hydrogen and nitrogen is negligible. It was found that the experimental equilibrium data can be accurately described by commonly employed adsorption isotherms. Diffusional time constants were determined for CO2, CO, CH4, and N-2 in the crystals of faujasite. The time constants for carbon dioxide are shown to be 2-3 times lower than those for the other gases investigated.
