Chemical treatment of commercial active carbon for adsorptive refrigeration machines
Adsorption processes have been proposed for heat management as a consistent alternative to the vapour compression system. Active carbon-methanol pair appears to be suitable for the cooling system. Commercial active carbon was modified by demineralization and oxidation treatment.. Porous structure of commercial active carbon was evaluated on the basis of nitrogen adsorption-desorption data. Chemical modification of active carbon changes its density characteristics, develops micro- and mesopore structure, increases the quantity of methanol adsorbed and heat effects of adsorption. The methods used for active carbon preparation give the possibility of modelling texture and nature of carbonaceous adsorbents for adsorption refrigeration systems.
