Calculation of the strength of cylindrical assemblies with an anaerobic adhesive
This study examines the mechanical behavior of slip cylindrical assemblies, bonded with retaining anaerobic adhesives. Loctite (currently Henkel) has developed software capable of calculating the strength of cylindrical adhesive bonds for a correct choice of the adhesive and design parameters for a pin-and-collar bond. Experimental and theoretical calculations are compared and the effect of uneven stress distribution in this type of bond is examined. Maximum stresses were determined using the equations proposed by Volkersen for single overlap adhesive joints.
