Solubility of 2,4-dinitrotoluene and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene in seawater
The solubility of 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4-DNT) and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (2,4,6-TNT) in seawater with ionic strength = (0.3352, 0.5071, and 0.6820) mol(.)L(-1) and pure water was measured at 4 degrees C, 20 degrees C, 30 degrees C, and 40 degrees C. The pure water solubility values compare well with values reported previously. The solubility in seawater was lower than that in pure water. The average salting-out coefficients for 2,4-DNT and 2,4,6-TNT were (0. 11 and 0. 12) L(.)mol(-1), respectively, which are consistent with measurements for other nitroaromatic compounds. The salting-out coefficients did not show any significant variation with temperature over the range examined.
