Low-Frequency Electrophoretic Deposition of ZnO Nanoparticles: Effect of Organic Medium on Deposition Pattern
In present study, using coplanar gold electrodes, the effect of two organic media, acetone and isopropanol, on the low-frequency electrophoretic deposition pattern of ZnO nanoparticles at 1 Hz was investigated. Optical and scanning electron microscopy indicate the formation of microcracks across the layer deposited in acetone. In contrast, the alternating electrophoretic deposition of ZnO nanoparticles from an isopropanol-based suspension lead to the formation of a uniform deposit connecting the two electrode edges. This evident difference in deposition pattern was attributed to suspension parameters such as viscosity, conductivity, particle size distribution, and diffusion coefficient.
