A non-dimensional equation is proposed to correlate the nucleate boiling heat transfer data from a horizontal cylinder to a liquid containing movable solid particles. The non-dimensional numbers which will be available for the correlation are discussed, and the correlation equation is derived through the regression analysis of experimental data. Particle materials used were alumina and glass, and diameter ranged from 0.3 to 2.0 mm, while the thickness of the particle bed varied from 5 to 80 mm. The heat flux was varied from 6.5x10(3) to 9.1x10(5) W/m(2) and the superheat from 2.1 to 27 K.
