General convective drying model for multi-material based on approximations of receding critical moisture plane and linear driving force
The convective drying mechanism of basic wet material consisting of a hygroscopic porous slab, a nonhygroscopic one or a polymer solution film was summarized on the basis of previous studies. A general convective drying model was proposed in a useful form for this material, for which a different drying model had been proposed. The general model is based on the receding critical moisture plane model, which may be a general form of the previous receding evaporation plane model, the linear driving force approximation, and the solid thickness-basis moisture content. The general model correlated the drying rate data in previous research papers. The change of moisture content profile with time calculated with the model agreed with the previous results. The general model might be utilized widely in place of the previous drying characteristic curve, and is named "the drying characteristic model" in this work. In addition to the general convective drying model for multi-material, the tools for simplification of the drying phenomena that were used in developing the model are important in being potentially applicable to other wet materials and/or drying methods.
