A study was conducted on the emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate using a loop reactor. Among the variables studied were the agitation, that is, the Reynold’s number, and the effect of the presence of silver ions on the reaction rate. The molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the polymer were determined as well as its particle size. The results are compared with earlier work done in a batch, a continuous tubular, and in a tubular loop reactor.
