Dynamic-mechanical indentation measurements of inhomogenous elastomeric samples
A new device for the measurement of dynamic-mechanical values on the surface of elastomeric samples is introduced. Indentation depths as well as scanning distances are achieved down to the mum-scale. By the help of model systems, correlations between indentation and ordinary values can be found. Characteristical curves, e.g. the Payne effect, can be detected. By the help of an x-,y-,z-table a defined scan of a sample-surface is possible. Therefore mechanical imaging with a local resolution of 50 mum is possible. The distribution curves of the indentation values give a first impression of the homogeneity of a sample on the mm-scale with mum-resolution. Theoretical treatments of indentation processes found in literature cannot describe the curves obtained.
