Study of the ageing of passenger car tyres
The aim of this project is to describe the effects of tyre ageing in more detail and to establish a connection between steel cord and rubber adhesion using simple testing methods. For this purpose we used 10 Michelin tyres which had been aged in a particular way and then subjected to high speed tests. The static and dynamic steel cord rubber adhesion of these tyres was then examined in a laboratory. It was found that the results obtained for the adhesion correlated to the tyre test results. Furthermore we found out that the measured adhesion values fitted into a data base which we have been working on for several years. The statistic reliability could be improved by these additional test results. The testing methods and results described here enable us to assess the ageing of steel cord rubber adhesion which is so important for the structural durability of a tyre.
