Advanced polymer architecture - Peroxide curable fluoroelastomers
Fluoroelastomers were originally designed to provide a means of sealing in the most arduous applications where the consequences of failure are catastrophic. High part costs were acceptable in these early applications since production costs were considered largely unimportant compared to end use performance. These days fluoroelastomers are used in high volume automotive applications where the end use performance is taken for granted. Processability has become the most important property due to it's impact on final part costs. A recently developed new polymerisation and curing technology allowed Du Pont Dow Elastomers to make easy processing Viton fluorelastomers that also have better end use properties. These flourelastomers made with Advanced Polymer Architecture fluoroelastomers satisfy both the end users and the part manufacturers.
