The rubber industry is intensifying its focus on rubber recycling, not only for ecological and economical reasons but also because of changes in environmental law. This article includes directives for manufacturers and suppliers as well as placing an emphasis on the problems associated with the re-use of rubber in original and new applications. Actual trends in rubber recycling are discussed, including material recycling as well as raw material and thermal recovery. Finally, the life cycle for tyres in Germany is discussed.
