Consumption of plastics in Italy in 2002 was considerably lower than in previous years, with virgin material growing by just 1.4 %. Growth in the use of recycled materials was hampered by a shortage of recyclable materials in the first few months and then by a decline in the prices of the raw materials later in the year. These are the conclusions reached in a market study conducted by Plastic Consult.
