Laser technology opens up new possibilities for joining, cutting and marking of a wide variety of materials, where small geometries and minimum influence on the product are required. Laser joining has been qualified for highly integrated products in plastic housings. Similarly, laser cutting and microstructuring are widely used for products in which conventional technologies cannot meet the demands regarding ablation geometry and material flexibility. Far more than joining and ablation, laser marking is already much more widely used for plastic products, where it offers big advantages with respect to marking flexibility and material selection.
