Injection moulding: Compounding wood fibres with plastic
Wood fibre/plastic compounds are innovative materials for injection moulding. The basic material - usually polypropylene - is compounded with high-grade wood fibres on a twin-screw compounder to produce the injection-mouldable granules. The most favourable configuration of the deep-flighted screws and the optimum processing conditions were established at the machine manufacturer's pilot plant. The fields of application for these composites range from the furniture and construction industries to the vehicle segment, A Swedish specialist company is involved in the entire production chain, from the processing of the wood fibres right the way through to the injection-moulded part.
