If FEA is to be used to support precision mechanical design of injection moulded parts made from short-fibre-reinforced thermoplastics, local fibre orientations in the parts need to be taken into account This article presents an integrated concept that features simulation of the fibre orientations in the actual moulded part, determination of the anisotropic material properties of the fibro/matrix composite and further processing of these data by means of mechanical structural analysis.
