OPTIMISED PROCESS CONTROL. A computer model for calculating the weld temperature, temperature profile and melting depth in the laser welding of thermoplastics was developed and subsequently checked by experiment. It is shown that the software can help to optimise the process parameters when specific data are available on the material, weld seam dimensions and rate of advance.
