Conventional methods for gas-turbine compressor cleaning are most effective at cleaning the least important aerodynamic surfaces, and least effective at cleaning the most important. The "inside-out" method, in contrast, has been shown to more thoroughly clean-and smooth off-critical airfoil surfaces.
