E.A. Gilbert Generating Unit, Maysville, Kentucky
The new, 268-MW E.A. Gilbert Generating Unit at the H.L. Spurlock Power Station in Maysville isn't just the cleanest coal-burning plant in Kentucky. Thanks to its circulating fluidized bed boiler from Alstom, it is one the cleanest in the U.S. the boiler's ability to burn a wide variety of coals-and even pet coke, biomass, or tire-derived fuels, also was a factor in POWER's decision to name E.A. Gilbert a Top Plant of 2005.
