Genesee Phase 3, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Genesee Phase 3 in Canada's first supercritical power plant and, at 450 MW, the largest generation unit ever added to Alberta's power grid. The plant is significant not only for its low levels of greenhouse gas emissions, made possible by the use of supercritical technology and emissions off- sets. It also marks the North American debut of a boiler, derived from a proven 500-MW-class Hitachi reference piant, that operates at sliding pressure. The key benefits of operating in this mode are high efficiency, operating flexibility, reliability. Don't be surprised to see this boiler design migrate to the U.S. in the very near future.
