Turbine inlet cooling benefits plant owners and the environment
One study reports that the gas turbine fleet in California alone "loses" over 2,000 MW of capacity due to derating during summer months, just when it is needed most. Cooling the turbines' inlet air can recover that capacity, and the technique is cheaper and cleaner than building peaking capacity to replace it.
