The possibility of neutralization of mercaptans occurring in Karachaganak and Orenburg gas condensates by alkylthiomethylation and alkylthiylation of vinyl ketones in an alkaline medium was examined. A 87.5-100 rel. % extent of demercaptanation of gas condensates was achieved at a low temperature (20degreesC) and atmospheric pressure. The mercaptan sulfur content decreased, and the sulfide sulfur content increased under these conditions.
