Selective removal of sulfur compounds from petroleum products using ionic liquids (Review)
Methods for the desulfurization of petroleum products using a new class of solvents, ionic liquids (salts with a quaternary nitrogen atom in their cations, which melt below room temperature), are outlined. Certain properties that determine the behavior of ionic liquids are considered. Technologies using ionic liquids are compared with conventional desulfurization protocols.
