History of the Nitrogen Works Putawy" was outlined. Environmental problems arose by starting-up the ammonia and urea production were presented. The studies carried out jointly with the Institutes for Forestry and for Fertilizing and Soil Science on limitation of the Works interaction on surrounding forests and cultures resulted in seting-up a complex program of environmental protection in 1985-2000. Effects of executing the program were described, actual state of the environmental protection and development projects were characterized.
