The use of advanced oxidation processes (AOP) for the decomposition of Triton X-114 nonionic detergent
Aqueous polyoxyethylene(8) isooctylphenyl ether (Fluka's Triton X-114; Polish Rokafenol-N) solutions were treated with oxidants like ozone and/or hydrogen peroxide and/or UV rays. Knauer's HPLC chromatograph equipped with a 250 x 4-mm Nukleosil 100 C18 column was used to follow the reaction course. Joint use of O-3, H2O2, and UV rays gave the 100% decomposition of Triton X-114. The second best yield was achieved with H2O2 and UV rays used jointly. Synergic effects occurred in either case. AOP applications are reviewed.
