Regeneration of spent active carbon used to adsorb carbon dioxide from atmospheric air
A Polish SAR-3 granulated macroporous active C, SDW, impregnated with aqueous MEA, dried, and conditioned, max sorption capacity (x(CO2)) 70 g CO2/kg, Is used to preclude the ingress of air-borne CO 2 Into water glass tanks. The kinetics of adsorption (Fig. 1) showed x(CO2) to be unrelated to the % of CO2 In air The max. temperature of regeneration of spent SDW applied In 40-mm layers In an electric drier (Fig. 2) was 80degreesC (12 h) or 120degreesC (4 h). Hot air or N-2 passed (20 L/min) through the layer allowed to cut the regeneration time to 1 h and 2.5 h at 120degreesC and 100degreesC, resp., and to use thicker layers.
