Industrial processes for producing phenols by the Hock-Lang method
A review with 59 refs. covering the fundamentals of the Hock-Lang or the cumene process, separation and purification of cumene hydroperoxide cleavage products, production of hydroxyaromatics like 1,4- and 1,3-benzenediols, cresols, and 2-naphthol, and possible use of alkylaromatic hydrocarbon oxidation process to make 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene and 4,4 -dihydroxybiphenyl. After 60 years, the Hock-Lang process continues to be the best route to phenol and other hydrocarbons.
