The activity of metal (Co, Ni, Ru, Pd) catalysts in the methanation of carbon dioxide
Activity of sol-gel impregnated title metal catalysts, 1 g, on Al2O3 (130), SiO2 (227) or Fe2O3 (20 m(2)/g) as carrier and of the anchored and grafted catalysts impregnated on xerogel carriers prepared from H2N(CH2)(3) Si(OMe)(3), was studied in methanation of 50 mL/min (1:5) CO2-H-2 (i.e., H-2 in 20% excess) over 25-800degreesC. In 2 weeks, 5%Ni/Al2O3 was only 20% less active. The carriers themselves had no catalytic effect Fe2O3 was reducible, the others were not Active metal phase was indispensable to form CH. but CO formed on the carriers alone with activities following the descending type: Fe2O3 > Al2O3 > SiO2 > empty reactor. The 2.8%Ru/SiO2 and 4%Co/ Al2O3 were most active and selective methanation catalysts. At 400degreesC, CH, yields followed the type Ru > Pt approximate to Ni > Co > Pd; and selectivities toward CH4: Ru > Ni approximate to Pt > Co > Pd.
