Flow resistance was studied in Sulzer's Katapak S-250 and S-500 and Montz's Multipak 0, 1 and 2 corrugated-metal gauze type packings, dry and irrigated. The packings were,used as segments 200 and 166 mm high, resp., in a 250 mm column packed 1 m high, with air-water used as the model system. Pressure drop, static and dynamic liquid holdup, and liquid-phase residence time distribution were measured. Specific hydraulic behavior of the packings examined was pointed out.
