Attempts to reduce diethylene glycol dibutyl ether losses in the extraction of gold
To avoid losses of diethylene glycol dibutyl ether on extraction and reduction of Au, caused by the solubility of l low in water, 2.6 g/L HO and rising in aq. HCl with the concentration of HCl, toluene and xylene were added to a model solution con(g. Au,9.2. Pt 8.0, Pd 5.0 g/L and 100 g HCl/L. Toluene reduced the loss of the organic phase passing into the raffinate and affected neither extraction nor Au purity. Losses of l were nearly eliminated in aq. < 100 g HCl/L solutions, (max. 3:1) toluene-l as extractant, organic-to-water phase ratio 1:1 to 3:2, stratification time 1 h, and extraction run at room temp.
