A novel solution for drying coarse-grained suspensions in a combination of a fluidized with a spray drier
The industrial installation used so far to dry fodder-grade Ca and Mg phosphates was modernized to include two units, a vibro-fluidized drier and a spray drier, communicating with each other by means of a turning gate. A novel cocurrent distributor equipped with a two-stream spray nozzle directed upwards, was used to spray the slurry in a hot-air stream, able to disperse and dry coarse particles to = 10% H2O, into the spray drying chamber. A conical bottom used in the spray drier allowed the dry material to move freely. The material to be dried up was delivered by a turning gate to the three sections of a vibro-fluidized drier. The novel design of the spray drier proved operative and effective.
