Applied R&D grants as a form of innovation implementation
These grants form part of effective programs intended to commercialize the R&D achievements. They are established and co-financed by the Polish State Committee for Scientific Research (KBN). The most effective modern solutions are applied in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, in large and small enterprises. The R&D form of innovation implementations has been used for 10 years in Poland. The KBN share is to cover about 50% of the R&D cost involved to implement a new technology or a new product or to modernize an existing installation. In the field of chemical technology, about 25 projects are initiated every year and financed by a total yearly donation of PLN 9.4 million. In the chemical industry, 1 Polish Zloty spent for research returned PLN 31.64 in the form of new product value. Chemical implementations were 1.25 times as cost-effective as those in the foodstuff industry, but they were more cost-effective by a factor of 5-10 than those in the building, electronic and mining industries. The experience gained in the past decade speaks in favor of the granting system. Simplification of formal procedures and inclusion of innovative projects Involving some realization risk appears desirable.
