The activity of gold, platinum and copper-zinc catalysts in the oxidation of 1,2-dichloropropane
Carrier alone (K)Fe2O3, and (a) 1%Au/(K)Fe2O3 and, for comparison, (b) 0.06% Pt/(gamma)AI20, and (c) 27.3%Zn-27.8%Cu were used to catalyze for 8 h the oxidn. of 32.5 g aq. 0.6 g/dm(3) 1,2-dichloropropane per hour with air at catalyst loads: (a) 64,500, (b) 10,000, and (c) 33,500 W. The yields were (a) 99.4% (450 degrees C), (b) 98% (450 degrees C), and (c) 95% (475 degrees C), resp. Neither HCOH nor CO were formed and the condensate had 340 mg Cl ions/dm(3). The catalysts were stable and active in the descending order a > b > c.
