Palladium and palladium-platinum catalysts used to purify industrial off-gases
Pd and/or Pt compds. were impregnated on Al2O3 (2 types) and reduced with coke gas combustion gases at 450° C to yield 0.06, 0.10, and 0.15% Pd, 0.06%Pd-0.02 (0.04 or 0.06)% Pt, and 0.06% Pt catalysts. These were tested in the oxidn. of 20 org. compds. with air (12 000 or 24 000 W) contg. 1 g compd./m(3) For aromatics and aliphatics (and oxygenated organics), the Pd catalysts were less and almost as active as the Pt catalysts, resp. The Pd were thermally (850° C) more resistant and longer-lived than the Pt catalysts. The Pd-Pt catalysts were not more active than either the Pd or Pt. The γ-Al2O3 type with a lower sp. surface and greater pore size distribution was more effective.
