Optimization of the Mo(CO)(6)-catalyzed epoxidation of (Z,E,E)-1,5,9-cydododecatdene (CDT) to 1,2-expoxy-(Z,E)-5,9-cyclododecadiene (ECDD)
The reaction was examd. in terms of a uniform-rotatable exptl. design with (I) CDT/t-Bu hydroperoxide mole ratio (1-5), (II) mole concn. of catalyst ((1-10)center dot 10(-4)), and (III) reaction time (20-120 min) as variables and with CDT conversion and CDT-to-ECDD conversion selectivity as response functions. CDT conversion was max. at min. I. Conversion rose as III was protracted. At II = (5.5-98)center dot 10(-4) mol/l. and III > 100 min, conversion of CDT was max (ca. 6791.). At I = 1-2.5 and at II > 5 center dot 10(-4), CDT-to-ECDD conversion selectivity was min. and descendant, resp. Increase in I and decrease in II favored selectivity of the CDT transformation to ECDD. Reaction time was less significant for CDT-to-ECDD conversion selectivity.
