Conversion of nitrous oxide by non-equilibrium plasma
Non-equil. plasma produced in (a) gliding discharge and (b) gliding discharge-aided microwave discharge were used convert N2O to N-2 and NO. Additionaly Cu-ZSM-5 catalyst was used with the discharge (a). The catalyst made N2O to convert faster to N-2, but not so to NO. At 178 (218) and 278 W (276 degrees C), the total N2O conversions were 54 and 91%, i.e., by 5 and 24% more than in the no-catalyst case, resp. The b-discharges accelerated the conversion to N-2 more than did a-discharges. Conversion to NO increased only slightly. In the b-discharges, the deg. of conversion was related to the reaction space vol.
