Authors' own studies on analytical procedures used for testing energy efficiency of biomass and alternative fuels were reviewed. The developed procedures were successfully implemented in the laboratory practice of the Institute for Chemical Coal Processing (IChPW). They got reliable results in balancing the renewable energy production and account settlement. Differences between conventional and new methods for determining the ash content in solid fuels, biomass and alternative fuels were evidenced.
