New ester biofuel Gliperol (R)
Rapeseed and palm oils, overdued buffer waste and beef tallow were cross-transesterified with Me(Et) acetate to a mixt. of fatty acid Me(Et) esters (80%) and glycerol triacetate (20%) at 50-65 degrees C for 3 h in presence of toluenesulfonic acids as catalyst. The reaction product was purified by extn. with water to remove the catalyst and (partly) Me(Et) acetate and by distn. to remove H2O and Me(Et) acetate. The catalyst was recovered from the reaction product and recycled. The conversion degree of the feedstocks was 55 to more than 98%. The fuel was analyzed and successfully tested in car engines.
