Thirteen potential 5-HT1A/HT2A ligands were designed and synthesized. The effect of structural modifications on the binding profile was discussed. The compds. were prepd. by reacting heteroaromatic moieties with piperazine and 1,4-dibromobutane to yield resp. quartenary ammonium salts. Final products were prepd. by coupling of the salts with resp. imides. Other group of the comps. was prepd. in the reaction of heteroaryipiperazines with bromoalkylimides or lactames. Free bases were converted into hydrochlorides.
