Synthesis of new epoxy resins for optoelectronics
3-(2'-Chloro-4'-nitrophenylazo)carbazole was synthesized by reacting carbazole with diazotated 2-chloro-4-nitroaniline at 40 degrees C for 24 h and substituted with epichlorohydrin in presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide, KOH and K2CO3 at 35 degrees C for 6 h. The reactive dye obtained was added to a epoxy resin (5% or 10%). The dipole momentum of the resulted resin was 2,7 D and 4,7 D, resp. The glass transition temp. was about 75 degrees C. The applicability of the resin for nonlinear optics was studied in an 1-micrometer film in UV and visible range. The max. components of the nonlinear electric second-grade susceptibility tensors were 63.8 pm/V and 23.6 pm/V at 70 degrees C and 7 kV. The patterning phenomenon was also obsd.
