A concise review, with 12 refs., of processes for manufg. biofuels by biomass conversion. In particular, prodn. of fatty acid alkyl ester by conversion of non-edible vegetable oils, prodn. hydrocarbons by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (biomass-to-liq.), as well as prodn. of EtOH, EtOCMe(3), and Me(2)O by fermentation and etherification were taken into consideration.
