Pithophora varia Wille macroalga was dried at 60 degrees C for 24 h, ground in mortar, and used for biosorption of Cr(III) ions from aq. soln. (initial concn. 326 mg/L). The macroalga released to the soln. mainly Ca, K, Mn(II) and Zn ions, while the biosorption capacity of macro alga towards Cr(III) ions remained const. This way, the macroalga studied was recommended as a biosorbent for recycling Cr(III) ions from their solns.
