Hysteresis in nitriding and reduction in the nanocrystalline iron-ammonia-hydrogen system
The nanocryst. Fe (crystallite size 19 nm) was nitrided with NH(3) at 400-500 degrees C in a flow reactor with thermogravimetric detection up to formation of Fe(2)N and then reduced with H(2) down to metallic Fe at 400-550 degrees C. The presence of nanocryst. alpha-Fe, gamma'-Fe(4)N and epsilon-Fe(x)N phases was evidenced.
