Some aspects of application of isomerization reaction in the bisphenol A technology
The p-HOC(6)H(4)(o-HOC(6)H(4))CMe(2) (1) component of the mother liq. from ion exchange resin-catalyzed synthesis of (p-HOC(6)H(4))(2)CMe(2) (II) made of PhOH and Me(2)CO was isomerized to H in presence a com. macroporous cation exchange resin at 80 degrees C for 6 h to study the reaction kinetics and check the reaction mechanism. The reaction product was methylated with Met in Me(2)SO in presence of PhCH(2)Et(3)NCl and analyzed by gas chromatog. with mass detector in CHCl(3). The 1st order kinetic equation was derived. The isomerization of I resulted in formation of isomeric 1,1-spiro-bis-(3,3-dimethyl-6-indanol), 1,1,3-trimethyl-3-(4-hydroxyphenyt)-5-indanol, 3,4-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethyl-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2H-1-benzopyrane and 2,4-bis-[1-methyl-1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]phenol. The temp. relationship of the reaction enthalpy was also calcd.
