The determination of chemical precipitation conditions of nickel hydroxide from solutions after leaching spent Ni-Cd batteries
NI was recovered from spent Ni-Cd batteries by dissoln. of cathodes and removal of Fe, Cd and Co from the soln. followed by the pptn. of Ni(OH)(2) with NaOH or NaOH/NH(4) OR The Ni(OH)(2) samples were prepd. at various pH, at ambient temp. and at 60 degrees C. beta-Ni(OH)(2) of a better crystallinity was obtained from soln. at pH 13 by pptn. with NaOH/NH(4)OH. No improvement in crystallinity of beta-Ni(OH)(2) was obsd. on rising the temp. of pptn. The electrochem. activity of Ni(OH)(2) was detd. by cyclic voltammetry. It was suitable for reusing in prodn. of Ni-Cd batteries.
