Producing the nickel-zinc alloy coatings
Ni-Zn alloy was electrodeposited on a steel substrate from an aq. soln. of NiCl(2), ZnCl(2), NH(4)Cl and H(3)BO(3) at 25 degrees C and current d. 2-16 A/dm(2) (total mol. concn. of Zn and Ni ions 0.5-1.5 mol/L, Zn/Ni concn. ratio 0.5-8). The Ni content in the coating produced decreased with increasing Zn/Ni ratio in the bath but showed a flat min. when plotted vs. current d. The coatings contg. more than 20% of Ni showed the best surface quality.
