Modified method for purification of sodium brine for production of chlorine and sodium chlorate
Com. NaCl was dissolved in H(2)O and purified by pptn. of Ca(OH)(2) and Mg(OH)(2) with NaOH or Na(2)CO(3), filtration, acidification with H(2)SO(4) and removal of sulfate ions with an ion exchange resin. The purified brine was used for prodn. of Cl(2) and NaClO(3). All by-products were reprocessed to avoid any formation of wastes.
