Effect of halogen-free modification of unsaturated polyester resins and glass-reinforced polyester laminates on their flame retardancy, levels
Two comp. polyester resins were modified by addn. of flame retardants (NH(4) or melamine polyphosphates, melamine borate) and used for manufg. polymer-matrix glass mat-reinforced laminates. The laminates showed an increased 0 index and thermal decompn. temp. 300-700 degrees C. The addn. of flame retardants resulted in a decrease of the total heat amounts generated during combustion but did not deteriorate the mech. properties of the laminates.
