Ex-situ solubilization of polychlorinated biphenyls in nonionic microemulsions
Soil-contained polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were solubilized in oil-in-water microemulsions consisting of corn. isooctane, Me(CH2)(12)COO-iso-Pr or BuOH (oil phase), (Me(CH2)(11)OCH2)(2), polyoryethylenesorbityl monooleate or H(CHOH)(3)CON(Me)(CH2)(11)Me gluconamide surfactants and Me3CHO or iso-PrOH cosurfactants at room temp. for 1 h, 24 h and 7 days. under mixing. A mixt. of 7 isomeric PCBs was used in the expts. The total solubilization degree 40.8-52.7% was achieved in all cases after 7 days. The degree increased with decreasing the Cl content in PCBs.
