Structural and surface properties of unmodified and unrefined hectorite were detd. The mineral was used as a filler for butadiene-acrylonitrile and carboxylated butadiene-acrylonitrile rubbers. The addn. of hectorite resulted in an increase in the tearing strength, stress at elongation and tensile strength at break of the rubbers after vulcanization.
